After the Book Launch

The book launch is done. As I reflect on it two days later, I do so with gratitude. That so many folks would give up part of their Saturday afternoon to celebrate this event is truly humbling and inspiring. I must say, as excited as I was to host the launch, I’m thrilled to have it in my rearview. I am anxious to see “Notes” start making its way into the marketplace where I can receive some unbiased, transparent feedback.

Thus far, my inner circle has shared very positive attributes of the book and its impact on them. These comments, however, come with a bit of baked-in affinity/confirmation bias. As I said during the launch when it was my turn to stand up and say a few words, I am fully aware that not all notes will speak to each reader. I didn’t take a ubiquitous approach when writing about each topic. Given that the points of view are my own, they are esoteric, but with a holistic lens, as I believe they have application to a majority of people. And I do say people and not parents. After all, our sons and daughters are people, right?

I realize this book may be positioned in the parenting genre, but the reality is that it’s focused on people. Regardless of age, gender, race, origin or sexual orientation, these are human topics that can impact even the most unmalleable mindsets. A motif of aspiration is minced amongst the words, and I wish it to come through to the readers. For with each potential iceberg called out, comes a pathway to evade it.

Life includes pavers and evaders, and sometimes we must become each at unique points. I hope you don’t evade this book, but read it with a paver mentality instead. There is only guidance, not gospel, in the prose. Pave your own way, and please do so in a state of equanimity. Thanks for taking a chance on this virgin author, who wrote the book to spark conversations and create aspirations in sons and daughters everywhere.

Here’s my reading of the book’s epilogue at the launch:
